Explore all aspects of service animals in American Job Centers and other governmental and workforce related venues under the ADA. We will review standards for service animals and how staff can respond to inappropriate use. In addition to reviewing the Justice Department’s regulations and guidance, participants will work through several scenarios to learn practical techniques when communicating with customers, clients, students and members of the public.

The Interactive Process: Providing Reasonable Accommodations to Customers with Disabilities
When: Thursday, November 21, 2024 - 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM EST
Explore best practices for providing reasonable accommodations to customers in AJCs and other workforce-related venues. Examine what is and is not considered a reasonable accommodation, how to receive requests, how to provide accommodations in the most inclusive, integrated, and timely manner possible, and how to maintain customers’ confidentiality. In addition to reviewing the legal requirements of Section 188 of WIOA and the ADA, participants will role play conversations using real-world scenarios.

Explore the requirements of affirmative outreach under WIOA and how to design and execute outreach campaigns that are inclusive and impactful. Explore methods to effectively engage targeted populations and avoid bias and discriminatory visuals and language in marketing materials.

Explore tips and resources for including accessibility in all program and service elements and brainstorm contingency plans for the unexpected.
